Let us dispense with the pleasantries.

The rambling, self-incriminating social media post by Patrick Chinamasa, the ZANU-PF Secretary for Legal Affairs, is not a clarification; it is the political suicide note of a fallen giant, a bitter man now operating as a hired gun for the Zvigananda faction. His feigned surprise at the “furore” surrounding Kudakwashe Tagwirei’s illegal co-option is a cynical performance that insults the intelligence of every Zimbabwean. With this post, Chinamasa and his co-conspirator, the National Political Commissar Munyaradzi Machacha, have not just put their political lives on the line for a corrupt financier; they have signed their own political death warrants.

They have sold out.

A History of Betrayal: The Making of a Hired Gun

To understand the magnitude of this betrayal, one must first understand the betrayer. Patrick Chinamasa’s power was never derived from liberation war credentials, but from his unique ability to translate the party’s raw political will into the language of law. He was the technocrat in service to power—a key figure in the 2004 Tsholotsho Declaration faction and a steadfast ally of Emmerson Mnangagwa. As Justice Minister, he was the architect of control who systematically dismantled judicial independence. As the legal mind behind Land Reform, he provided the constitutional veneer for seizures, even as he personally benefited.

This is not the first time Chinamasa has betrayed his principles for power and profit. As Minister of Finance, he was the chief enabler of the financial rot that has brought our nation to its knees. He presided over the corrupt Dema emergency power project, a deal that benefited Tagwirei and Grace Mugabe. He issued the very Treasury Bills for Command Agriculture that were used to siphon billions from the state into Sakunda’s coffers. In a moment of profound irony, it was Chinamasa himself who, in 2017, warned Parliament that the rampant issuance of T-Bills was a primary cause of our economic woes. He knew the poison he was helping to brew, yet he personally built the financial plumbing for the state capture he now so shamelessly defends. Allegations even circulate that he liquidated a treasury bill of $10 million for himself as a parting gift upon leaving the ministry.

And we remember 2017. After enabling the excesses of the G40 faction, he was one of the first to sell out President Mugabe to save his own skin, seamlessly switching allegiances to the new dispensation. His reward? A humiliating “demotion” from a senior cabinet post to a party position at headquarters. It is from this place of bitterness that he has become a man for hire, his loyalty sold to the highest bidder. His lifestyle, we are told, is now fully sponsored by the Zvigananda faction. He resides in a Greendale house owned by the notorious gold dealer Scott Sakupwanya, a key Zvigananda cog. All his expenses, down to his recent medical treatments for prostate cancer in India, are paid for by this corrupt network. He doesn’t leave Tagwirei’s Newlands office, a supplicant looking for handouts and his cut on corrupt deals—tethered to his new master like a dog on a leash.

The ‘Queen Bee aka Mamvura’ and the Poisoning of the State

Chinamasa’s services are in defense of Kudakwashe Tagwirei, the “Queen Bee” of state capture. Tagwirei’s empire was built on the infamous Treasury Bill scheme—a magic trick where billions in public debt were transformed into tens of millions in private US dollars for one man, while the nation was left with worthless paper and crippling hyperinflation. This symbiotic relationship underpins the Zvigananda faction’s power: political actors like Chinamasa provide the legal cover, while financiers like Tagwirei provide the resources that sustain diminished political figures. It is a closed loop of patronage that has insulated its members from all accountability.

The Anatomy of a Legal Coup: Hypocrisy and Institutional Sabotage

Chinamasa’s legal expertise has now become the very tool used to execute a legal coup. In his post, he confessed to the entire plot: his Legal Affairs department drafted a new circular on June 30th, 2025, to “supersede” the principled one issued by the Secretary-General, Dr. Obert Mpofu, on June 5th. This stands in diametric opposition to his own firm directive in August 2021, where, as Acting Political Commissar, he banned “all co-options of unelected officials.” This is not just hypocrisy; it is a premeditated act of institutional sabotage, a move strategically enabled by President Mnangagwa, who placed this pawn in the legal department for this very moment.

The political landscape has been set ablaze by these actions, which are not an isolated act of folly but the most visible salvo in a deep and bitter war for the soul of ZANU-PF. This is a collision between the party’s liberation-era old guard, consolidating around the principled authority of Vice President Constantino Chiwenga, and a new, parasitic class of politically-connected oligarchs—the Zvigananda faction—whose influence, under the patronage of President Mnangagwa, now threatens to consume the party itself.

The Treasonous Blueprint: A Mirror Image of G40 and a Kleptocratic Dynasty

President Mnangagwa’s decision to deliberately move Chinamasa to the party’s legal department was clearly a strategic placement for this very moment. He was positioned to facilitate a treasonous blueprint, a chilling mirror image of the failed G40 plot. We all remember that strategy: to install Saviour “Tyson” Kasukuwere as President, with Grace Mugabe as First Vice President and Jonathan Moyo as Second Vice President, sidelining the party’s established hierarchy.

The Zvigananda faction’s endgame is a direct copy, but with an even more absurd and dangerous cast of characters: President Kudakwashe Tagwirei, a sanctioned oligarch; First Vice President Auxillia Mnangagwa, the First Lady implicated in corruption; and Second Vice President Busisa Moyo, the ZIDA Chairman and a co-opted corporate executive. This is not a succession plan; it is a plot to install a kleptocratic dynasty, composed of thieves and enablers who would plunder the nation unchecked.

A Declaration of War, An Inevitable Cleansing

ZANU-PF is now under siege from within. Its elders, having no more life in politics, are choosing to become corrupt gatekeepers, taking massive bribes as their “pension packages.” Chinamasa’s post was a declaration of war on the party’s principled wing and a direct challenge to the authority of the Second Secretary of the party, Vice President Constantino Chiwenga—the very man who personally ejected Tagwirei from a party forum. This unforgivable act of insubordination was a fatal miscalculation.

We have seen this play before. The G40 faction also had administrative control and the backing of a First Family, but it lacked the support of the military and was decisively cleansed. The Zvigananda faction, in its arrogance, has made the same fatal miscalculation. I am reliably informed that this act has sealed their fate, and that it will not be long before Vice President Chiwenga activates a machinery that will decisively wipe out the Zvigananda faction and its enablers.

It is both astonishing and audacious that Patrick Chinamasa has openly defied the President’s statement from the last cabinet meeting on this very issue, while also dismissing the Secretary-General’s circular on the same matter. In doing so, he has positioned himself as the all-powerful legal architect of his own downfall. This reckless act, akin to diving headfirst into a raging fire or kunonzi kupinda nemwenje mudziva, has reportedly seized the attention of the Presidium, which is now deliberating on the matter. A decisive response is expected before the Zvigananda faction’s promised elevation of their modern-day Judas to the Central Committee is realized.

A cleansing of the party is now not just necessary; it is inevitable. A message to Chinamasa and Machacha: enjoy your thirty pieces of silver. At the next Central Committee meeting, you will be out of the party. You have put your political lives on the line for a thief, and you will pay the price. The call from the custodians of the revolution is now clear and absolute: Patrick Chinamasa and Munyaradzi Machacha must be immediately expelled from the party. Their names must be struck from the roll of a party they have so publicly betrayed.

This is no longer politics. It’s now warfare. The declaration of war has been answered. The cleansing is coming.
